As we planned this weekend away with our friends Abby, Steve & Emma, we joked that they chose wise traveling companions. Never before have we traveled to Zermatt and not had gorgeous days, with great views of the Matterhorn. Our fourth trip down to the Valais was no different. We spent almost the entire day Saturday hiking past a bunch of mountain lakes. Our intended hike route would have taken us past 5, but we cut it a bit short and only covered 4...we'll blame it on the babies, those dudes get heavy! If you can get a guarantee that the weather will be favorable, there is no better place in Switzerland to visit than Zermatt and the Matterhorn. We are big fans.

The best summer, ever.
We had the most phenomenal summer. Certainly the best in 5 years. There were a few days here and there that were too warm, but we all found ways to stay cool. Liam & I spent a lot of afternoons in shady parks, splashing in fountains while Joe took to swimming in the river (upstream, against the current....basically swimming to stay in the same spot, motivating!) during his lunch breaks. On the weekends we were always at a lake, pool, or discovering badis (pay facilities along Lake Zurich with pool facilities for kids, changing rooms, slides and diving boards into the lake & docks to swim out to with some gorgeous views of the city and the mountains). All these years we had spent sunny summer days in free grassy parts along the lake. Only took us five years to man up & pay.....and we quickly realized we were missing out, big time! Zurich in the summer is, at the risk of sounding horribly cheesy and trite, kinda magical. The nights are longer than at home, everyone and I mean, everyone is out taking advantage of the good days, the sun is hot but the nights are cool. The lake is comfortable to swim in, clean and fresh. There are tons of great places to discover and on a clear night, when you find yourself in the middle of nowhere with a child who refuses to go back to sleep in the hotel room cot, there are more stars in the night sky than one ever imagined could possibly exist.
Sand: get in my belly!
Hydration: sparkling Italian water style (aka pretentiously)
Lily pads & huge gross fish, we could almost be at the MO Botanical gardens...
Look what I've got mom, a WATER CAN!!!! You cannot stop me now, muhhahahaha
Watering the patio, important job.
On the top of Mt. Rigi
Listening to an alp horn concert
Seesaw also on Rigi
Swimming pool & slide (I know which boy enjoyed the slide most) in Saanen, CH
Baby bathrobe, awesome work hotel. Ps: you better step up your welcome game!
Swim in the pool?, nah. I've got some WSJ to catch up on...

Germany with Oma & Grandpa
Despite a less than ideal to our Germany trip (a royal f-up on the part of United which delayed Oma & Grandpa by a day) and some very cool temps for June, we had a great time, got to see some very pretty spots and the nugs got a lavish amount of attention and playtime. All in all a great trip, and fabulous to have the grandparents here!
It's been about 2 months since this trip actually occurred (I'm definitely on the blog B team right now) and all the photos uploaded in totally random order. You're getting photos, don't hassle me about the chronology...ok? Okay.
Walking the old town walls in Oberwesel (along the Rhine River).
Rothenburg old city
Chhhheeekky.
Salsa dancing?
Woof, woof!
Saying 'what's up' to the passing boats.
Objection, your honor. I mean, Mom.
Oberwesel old city ramparts
Give it to me! Self-dispense cigarette machines were everywhere in Oberwesel. Just on the street. NBD
Fork lift, what what?!!
Middle schoolers on a field trip fawning over Liam, aka free babysitting on our boat ride along the Rhine. Liam was flirting. Big time. Let's hope he thinks girls are 'gross' by the time he's in middle school, or seriously, we will be in trouble.
