Pobrecito. AKA Old Man Leg.

My poor baby, heading out for his first day of 'in the office work' post-injury. I coordinated his outfit to match his brace (USA! USA! USA!) as, that's right peoples, not only am I a cereal & medicine-fetcher, I also pick out outfits, massage weird pains, & attend doctor/physio appointments for 'moral support.' Somehow, throughout this whole fiasco, that's one thing we've strangely done quite well is to keep each other positive (I know, it's super hard to believe as we are usually such debbie-downers).
It's been a long 12 days chock-full of mis-information & mis-understanding. The day after we arrived back to Switzerland, Joe had an MRI & CT scan. Joe was amused because the technician said, the machine is really loud, here are some head phones, then put them on his ears at 100% volume (rendering him more deaf than the machine possibly could have). However, he did get to "relax" the un-edited versions of JayZ H to the Izzo & Eminem while having the MRI, so one can't complain too much.
Finally, after our initial visit to the public hospital which was a rushed, confusing affair, we were informed that EY has 'private accident insurance,' aka the platinum coverage in the country of platinum health care. We pay nothing. Nada. Kein. It's pretty incredible considering Joe's had 3 doctors visits, 2 surgeons visits, an Xray, MRI, CT scan, deep vein thrombosis shots (daily --- they make him look a bit like a addict from the bruise lines), 2 sets of crutches, leg brace & I'm not even sure that's an exhaustive list. Oh, and 4 physio appointments, thus far.

This was the way we spend part of a recent evening, filling out important medical documents, in German. Nothing like being able to check 'no' down the line to previous ailments/surgeries/allergies, even if we only understood about 2/3 of what it was saying.
Joe's going in for surgery on Monday. We'll both have a few days 'off' paid while he's in the hospital for the night, even though the surgery takes '15 minutes,' according to the surgeon, who we've already met & talked with for over an hour. Other than being far away from you all during this, we really couldn't be in a better place to get Joe healthy again. (He's going to have his work cut out for him too as his left quad has already atrophied into an old man leg in the past 12 days;) We're in the right frame of mind now, not feeling sorry for ourselves, just ready to recover his knee/leg & come back stronger than before. Just like the 2 of us, stronger than ever, full of support & love. Thanks for all the support, love & wishes from home as well. It's comforting to know you are all thinking of & praying for him.

Glad to hear that Joe is being such a trooper and that you are quite the jack of all trades knee related. Hope the surgery goes well and the recovery quick and as painless as possible. Love you guys!

We are thinking about you guys and wishing we were closer to help out and offer moral support. I'm glad you were able to get a second opinion and move forward with everything. Good luck with the surgery. Love you both!
